ROLL OVER AND SHOW YOU MY BELLY

Santa where you at....

2024 update (13 sept 2024) - this posts looks wrong - only one shoe / sock?! I think the placement of items as well looks more like the style I developed in later years. More likely this was several cute pairs of socks and a few options for shoes in different styles/colorways. like.... a blog post rather than social media ones. I am leaving it up rather than deleting or trying to reconstruct what I did, but the style is off.

THIS IS HOW I KICKS IT

Really fancying the idea of pencil skirts -- I've oscillated between minis and maxis for a while, so I want a new silhouette... These look best on women with bodies (like, erm, me) - but how do you make a pencil skirt modern without going Kardashian? Early ideas include mesh, panels and leather...

WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU LEFT JERUSALEM?

Haven't scoped out new blogs in a while, and today I found a few gems. Found this total inspo on feelingvague.blogspot.co.uk, kind of a modern goth opus by a young tattoo artist. Cool!

Whispers from the weekend...

{Music: Bob Marley's Is This Love, covered by Corrine Bailey Rae - and converted from 4/4 into 6/8. She's a genius!!!!}

WHETHER I SHALL TURN OUT TO BE THE HERO OF MY OWN LIFE, OR WHETHER THAT STATION WILL BE HELD BY ANYBODY ELSE, THESE PAGES MUST SHOW

That's all for now.

NEVER BET THE DEVIL YOUR HEAD

Been bored with my hair and planning some fun stuff to do with it. Head's swirling with deas of 60s chanteuses (Marianne Faithfull, Sylvie Vartan & Francoise Hardy), random updos and beautiful pastel colors on brown skin!  Inspo below...

NELLY, I AM HEATHCLIFF!

A few sugar coated pop choons (tunes) with warm, melted centres...Hooray for SIA!

{music: David Guetta - Titanium ft. Sia & Flo Rida - Wild Ones ft. Sia}

{title: Catherine Earnshaw From Wuthering Heights describes her love for Heathcliff:
"My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods: time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Heathcliff - he's always, always in my mind - not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself - but as my own being; so, don't talk of our separation again - it is impracticable."}

{Paintings from Laurence Owen's series "Wish You Were Here". I like how barren they are - the figures in the paintings look active, like they're working hard - but nothing is coming of it...tilling barren ground.}

HOW FAR CAN YOU FALL?

So many posts, so little time. Amazing how you can not write/create for ages then it all pours out like turning on a water spigot...

{Music: Mary J Blige singing "Missing You" live in 1998. My fave MJB live performance, I think. Ironic.}

BE STILL

After a flurry of activity in the real world, we turn to my trusty blog once again for some circumspect introspection: "Eso te sucede negra por enamorar!"

I've always been interested in the black Peruvians on the coast of Peru - they intermarried with the Incas (they jokingly call themselves Ingas, a mix of Inca and Mandingo) and formed one of the few cultures that is a mix of indigenous and African influences. Another one being of course, African American groups like the Black Seminoles, like some of my family. :)

{music: Susana Baca, Zamba Malató. It's in Peruvian-accented Spanish and the lyrics are about a black woman who dances like a bird to get a man's attention. The final lyrics are translated "That's what you get for falling in love!"}
