rihanna's new look
Love the fashion in Rihanna's new music videos. especially the hooded pieces and the sharp smokey eye with hard edges and angles.

Living in London really helps you to realise the connection between fashion and music. I wanted to do a Dooder City-esque post on some musicians who I love, who definitely influenced my ideas of fashion and style. Of course, the 60s and the idea that we can be modern and responsible and form a community as young people have really influenced me, and the music reflected that. Then, musicians like Tom Waits (well, all these artists, really) show that you can be an individual and stay true to your art. You can do something different, and when you do, you become even more a part of your community, because you inspire others to be themselves and you all go through things together.

Lola Loves: Forever 21
I'm extremely picky about jewelry. I usually avoid department and high street jewelry like a bad smell. However, the same goes for overly ornate and needlessly expensive accessories. I haven't exactly pinpointed what makes hot jewelry for me, but I do know that Forever 21 does it. And it's so cheap! Here are some of my current favourites:
If I bought these all, they'd probably only cost me 45USD not including shipping. That's incredible. The only thing I have to watch out for now is wanting to wear them all at once. Edit, Lola.

Designer Spotlight: Mayle
I'm late. I ran across designer Mayle just today, and on their website they haven't had a collection since Resort 2008. Sigh. Well, let's go retro. I first heard of Mayle (today) while browsing LaGarconne.com, which uncannily stocks EVERYTHING exactly to my taste. I want to meet the buying team for this website.
And, while I'm making wishes, I want Mayle to produce another collection. Here are some of my favorites from Fall 2008. This collection was inspired by the following Jeanne Moreau quote:
"To me the word 'pleasure' is more important than the word "happiness'. It's easier to achieve than happiness. It is specific."
Interesting take on things. Mayle encompasses my current love for all things neutrally colored (black, grey, chocolate, white) and subtly tailored with details evident to those who look closer.

I hope to be inspired by these looks and recreate them using Urban Outfitters, Zara, Primark, George, La Redoute, Steve Madden, Forever 21, etc... you know the deal! So what do you all think of Mayle? Do we like??
