BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD

Today's song comes from Delta Spirit, singing a modern, Southern American version of an old Irish Blessing I used to sing as a kid (which is below). The lyrics go "Before the Devil knows you're dead, may you be in heaven, my friend."

I always wondered why I got along so well with Irish people, then I went to live in Ireland, and I felt so at home in Celtic culture. There's such an overlap between Southern and Irish humour and attitude. Oftentimes, when I meet an Irish person in the UK, for a few seconds I'll swear they have a Southern accent.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand
