How do you begin a fashion and beauty blog? Everything begins with inspiration. So, I've decided to list the top 10 blogs that have inspired me to add my own perspective to this new world of online fashion. In no particular order, here goes!
1. Jak and Jil
http://jakandjil.com/blog/
I view this blog as a sort of nature blog, where the photographer captures elusive stylists, editors and models in their natural habitat. And THANK GOD :D These well-shot candids from the streets are enough inspiration before even delving into these professionals' work. It's almost too much! :0)
2. Vanilla Scented
http://vanillascented.com/
In Norway, they wear everything I want. lol! VanillaScented's style is very similar to my own-- very stylish but wearable, with classic lines and personal accents. One quite cool thing about VanillaScented is that she customizes and makes a lot of her own pieces. Brillant!!
3. The Cookie Jar
http://thecookie-jar.blogspot.com/
This Mexican-American is studying fashion in Italy, and she's got AMAZING taste. She's absolutely widened the scope of designers I look at; and her posts are so funny :P So cool!
4. Sea of Shoes
http://seaofshoes.typepad.com/
Jane's style is high end interpreted for daily life, and she ALWAYS has on a pair of raging shoes. What makes her blog special is that she actually purchases the pieces we all lust over, and then interprets the colors and textures to create her own style. She's an avant garde babydoll! Her mom Judy is a businesswoman, decorator and former model; she has her own killer blog here -- http://atlantishome.typepad.com/.
5. Emma Nygren
http://emmanygren.se
Emma here is proof that a picture is worth a thousand words... 'cause she's Swedish and I have no idea what most of her blogs are saying (well, I use Google Translate). I'm really into Swedish Fashion tho! Her blog is cool, irreverent, together, and laid back at the same time. Snygg!!
6.Karla's Closet
http://karlascloset.blogspot.com/
Many of my favorite blogs are based in California, and Karla definitely tops the list. She's got a strong concept of what she likes, and equally important, she dresses to fit her silhouette. She always looks sexy yet put together, like pairing a sharp blazer with "Pleaser" boots, a chic bag, manicured nails and her signature haircut. Yay!!
7. Fashion Flash
http://www.pause.se/bloggar/fashion-flash/
This girl serves it up! She's got amazing garments and she wears them well. I think she shows us exactly what style is -- wearing clothes that express your point of view.
8. Stockholm Street Style
http://stockholmstreetstyle.feber.se/
No introductions neccessary. Just look at the pictures!!!
9. Shake Your Beauty
http://www.tiawilliams.net/blog/
My favorite beauty blog!!!! The lovely Tia Willams is the rare blogger who actually has a job in fashion :P. She has worked at YM, Glamour, and Lucky Magazine, and is currently the beauty director at Teen People. She even co-wrote The Beauty of Color with Iman!!! When she recommends a product, I believe her!
10. Fashion is Poison
http://lamodeestpoison.blogspot.com/
Oh Lucrecia! What style you have. FashionisPoison is actually the VERY first fashion blog I checked out, and it got me hooked. One cool thing about Lucrecia is she showcases local California designers on her blog, and finds one-of-a-kind pieces this way. She goes for high quality, classic garments in black, grey and white and always wears stunner shoes. Think Alexander Wang, the Chloe Boots and the Balenciaga bag. Lucky for us, she's also got her own ebay store.
As you can see, inspiration can come from anywhere-- Sweden, Texas, California, France... If I am lucky, maybe even here at LolaRe. So welcome, and enjoy. :O)
