Ayura Cosmetics is a Japanese cosmetics company that has a holistic body care. I think it's so cool, here is what they have to say on their website:
"Ayura is designed to promote the flows of 'Qi', 'Xue', and 'Jin' to generate problem-free skin filled with vitality.... It regulates the skin balance that changes constantly and is different in each individual."
So, they have a skin care section with makeup removers, cleansers, primers, lotions, serums, gels, creams, masks and sunscreens, etc.
They have a fragrance that I really want to try that is supposed to be one of the most popular in Japan. It's called Spirit of Ayura. There's a pic and a fragrance breakdown below:
They also have an Art of Beauty Care library where show you how to relax and gently care for yourself. The tutorial below is an example of the techniques they demonstrate:
Breathe slowly and deeply. Find the most relaxing breathing speed and continue breathing in rhythm.
Massage in a large movement using the finger pads. It is not necessary to press hard.
Move the fingertips from the hairline to the top of the head using slight pressure.
When doing this, if you feel pain at any spot, this is where fatigue has accumulated.
Massage especially where you feel pain from the hairline to the top of your head as though actually moving the whole scalp.
Pinch your scalp very quickly and lightly with your finger pads. Massage lightly and rhythmically without rubbing.
Breathe in deeply, then press a pressure point upwards toward the top of your head with your fingers, and simultaneously breathe out slowly. Hold the finger movement. Breathe in again, then relax.
It is even more effective with deep breathing.

There is lots more on their website, you should check it out!!!
This is him with the incredible, late Eartha Kitt (RIP Eartha :(((( ).
You know him as the mastermind behind Target, but did you know he was the star of a documentary which chronicles the creation of a collection? It includes his inspiration, designing, fittings, and runway show. All the supermodels are in it, in all their 90s glory: from Linda Evangelista, Naomi Cambell, Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Giselle.... pretty much everyone ... oh Amber Valetta.... Shalom Harlowe... so... everyone. :D
Note: This film was my first introduction to Andre Leon Talley, editor-at-large at American Vogue. Talley styles Michelle Obama, and is from North Carolina. More on him later!
Paris is Burning This film isn't strictly about the fashion industry. Instead, it's about men who are serious about fashion-- gay african american men in Harlem, NYC in the 90s. This is the bittersweet tale of the beginning of fashion voguing (a-la Madonna, a-la Benny Ninja from the House of Ninja on ANTM). These men have difficult lives but use fashion and balls as a way to escape and create a fantasy world where they feel safe and fabulous.
1. Spend Cash (not credit!!). 2. Thrift. 3. Do it Yourself. 4. Shop in the Men's, Boys and Girls sections. 5. Buy Men's beauty products. They often have the exact same formulations, but they just have different packaging and cost less. 6. Shop out of season (January and June). 7. Build relationships at your favorite retailers (get on mailing lists, etc) and stay updated as to deals and sales. 8. Be patient! Wait for it to go on sale. 9. Spend the big bucks on items you'll use a lot, like a coat, a bag or great basics. 10. Shop online. 11. Buy in bulk-- If you have a staple product or fragrance, get a larger size of it so you pay less per unit. 12. Buy items you LOVE, and nothing less.
Check it out you guys! I've just been looking at the designers' lookbooks and my favorites so far are Hope, 5th Avenue Shoe Repair, Dagmar, Julian Red, and The Local Firm.
Here are some of my favorite pieces: (all pics from http://www.fashionweekbyberns.com/)
*Note (13 Apr 2025) - I'm pretty sure I knew Topshop was not a Swedish brand because I was working in the London Oxford Street store around this time... I think this might have been added in / changed from something else.
I completely and utterly love Scandinavian fashion. It's crazy amazing. I check StockholmStreetStyle out on the daily, and I've noticed that some of the brands that are popular in Sweden include:
(as well as the familiar Zara, Forever 21, and H and M)
Normally, I would do a post on my inspirations from these lines, but it's STOCKHOLM FASHION WEEK!!! (Well, Berns Fashion Week, it's been renamed). So instead, I'm gonna go to the source and show you the looks I like best straight from the runways.
Inspiration comes from everywhere, crickets! Do you remember this scene from ET?
Well, I haven't been able to get it out of my head today. It combines so many things that inspire me right now-- California, the 80's, dressing like a boy & breaking rules :P
NOTE: I don't think I wrote anything rhyming with "can't get it out of my head" about any of the characters in ET... (6 Mar 2025)
I go back and forth between loving girly clothes and loving boyish clothes. Right now I'm channeling these flannel shirts, hoodies in primary colors, 80s sneakers, and light jackets. This has GOT to be Spring 09 for me!
Stay tuned for how I would interpret the look for myself....
